GORILLA TREKKING AND BIRDING SAFARI

This safari takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for mountain gorilla trekking and specialty birds’ observation. Gorilla trekking in Uganda is a must experience not to be missed. Bwindi impenetrable forest habituates families of mountain gorillas along with more than ten other species of primates for example, Chimpanzees, Colubus monkeys, Olive baboons, extra. Bwindi is also one of the richest forests for flora and fauna in Africa and now here for your adventure.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, boosts of a 360 bird species record with 23 of Uganda’s 24 Albertine Rift endemics among which include the globally threatened species such as the African Green Broadbill and Shelley’s Crimsonwing. Others include; Oberlander's/Forest Ground Thrush, Sassi's Olive Greenbul, Dusky Crimson-wing,Strange Weaver, Rwenzori Double-collared Sunbird, Regal Sunbird, Purple -breasted Sunbird, Blue-headed Sunbird, Rwenzori Batis, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Short -tailed/Neumann's Warbler, Grauer's Warbler, Grauer's Rush Warbler, Collared Apalis, Montane Masked Apalis, Kivu Ground Thrush, Red-throated Alethe, Stripe-breasted Tit, Rwenzori Nightjar, Rwenzori Turaco, Handsome Francolin.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Gorilla trekking is an active expedition with moderate to strenuous hikes. Participants must be at least 15 years old, and should be physically fit. While tracking primates, guests will trek through thick jungle at elevations ranging up to 10,000 feet, for as many as four to eight hours, depending on the location of the primates. Treks can be arduous; and the terrain can be steep, uneven, wet, and muddy. This trip is not suitable for those who suffer from a cardiac, respiratory, or circulatory disorder or a disability that limits mobility. Read Gorilla Trekking Guidelines

01Day One:Arrival

02Day Two:Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, we will head to western Uganda for the birding experience in Africa’s No. 1 birding Spot. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to over a half of the world’s endangered Mountain Gorillas and is home to a good number of nocturnal and diurnal Primates. 03Day Three: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Early in the morning you assemble for a short briefing at the trekking departure point before heading for for the unforgettable experience with the world endangered gentle giants. While trekking, you could encounter a number of forest species. After trekking, you will have a self guided birding evening around the premises. Look out for the Black Bee-Eater, Dusky Tit, Brown-capped Warbler, the Yellow-billed and Yellow-spotted Barbets, the African and Black-and-white Shryke-Flycatcher, Common Stonechat, Brown-throated and Chestnut Wattle-eyes, a number of Apalis Species, Equatorial Akalat, Slaty Flycatcher, White-bellied Robin-Chat, the Olive-green and Grey-backed Camaropteras,White-chinned Prinnia, Green Hylia, Short-tailed Warbler, White-tailed Anti-thrush, Cape Wagtail, Grey-capped Warbler, Grauer's Warbler, Grauer's Rush Warbler, White-browed Crombec, the list is long. 04Day Four:Birding in Ruhija

Today we bird Ruhija in search for the darling African Green Broadbill, Handsome Francolin, Strange Weaver, Shelley’s and Dusky Crimson-wings, Stripe-breasted Tit, Rwenzori Batis, White-browed Crombec, White-aped Raven, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Sharp’s Starling, Mountain masked and Rwenzori Apalises and many more. 05Day Five:Birding in Mubwindi swamps

Whole day birding Mubwindi swamps. We look out for the Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, Brown-capped Warbler, Black-billed Weaver, Black-necked Weaver, Red-headed Malimbe, Grey-headed Sparrow, Waller's Starling, Stuhlmann's Starling, Montane Oriole, Many Coloured Bush-Shrike, Bocage's Bush-Shrike, Mountain Illadopsis, Rwenzori Nightjar, just to mention but a few Overnight at Ruhija Gorilla Lodge | Trekkers Tavern (Meal Plan Full Board)

06Day Six:Birding and transfer to Entebbe

Early morning breakfast we will start the long drive back to Entebbe. We make several birding stopovers, arriving in Entebbe in the evening. ( Breakfast & lunch)
