Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s two Premium Parks, and is a birdlover’s paradise. It surrounds Lake Nakuru, located in the Central Rift Conservation Area in the Southern Rift Valley region of Kenya. Originally protected as a bird sanctuary, this park hosts over 400 bird species, including 5 globally threatened species, and is an important stop on the African-Eurasian Migratory Flyway. This park was also the first national Rhino sanctuary and hosts one of the world’s highest concentrations of the Black Rhinoceros.
You are guaranteed to see: White Rhinos, African Buffalos, Rothschild Giraffes, Zebras, Impalas, Olive Baboons, Vervet Monkeys, Waterbucks, a variety of water birds (Yellow-billed Pelicans, Marabou Storks, Hammerkops, Fish Eagles, etc.) Also common in the park: Hyenas, Jackals, Lesser Flamingos, Hippopotamus, Pythons
In addition to its 400 species of birds, Lake Nakuru National Park is home to 50+ mammal species, and over 500 species of flora. This park is famous for the flocks of Greater and Lesser Flamingos that gather around the lake, sometimes with as many as 2 million! You can find this great pink mass around the lake for a good part of the year, as these iconic birds stay mostly within the Rift Valley, migrating from lake to lake. Because Lake Nakuru National Park was fenced to protect endangered Rhinos and Giraffes, it can’t support African Elephants, so you won’t find any here!
Kenya is known as the safari capital of the world because of its amazing wildlife, beaches, birds and weather. Visitors to Kenya are spoiled for choice - you can choose to visit any or all of the twenty three national parks or the thirteen national reserves.
Millions of travelers go to Kenya to witness the Great Migration or chase the Big Five. The ‘Big 5’ – the elephant, rhinoceros, lion, leopard, and cape buffalo – can all be found in Kenya’s parks, with other popular animals such as the giraffe, cheetah, and zebras. Kenya is a great country for a day safari or a multi-park tour. Headlined by the world renowned Masai Mara National Park, some of its parks located mere hours from the city center.
In addition to the opportunity to see some of Africa most iconic animals in their natural habitat, Kenya also offers visitors the chance to go on cultural safaris. The Maasi culture tours are rated as the best culture tours by thousands of travelers.
Kenya's diverse landscapes ranging from snow-capped mountains to stunning volcanic springs, and from sun-parched deserts to verdant Savannah and forests, a safari tour of Kenya is as much a chance to soak in unique landscapes as it is an opportunity to see wildlife whose concentration can't be found anywhere in the world.
