This one day tour take you to Ngamba Island Chimpanzees, commonly known as Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Ngamba Island is located in Lake Victoria. Located 23 km offshore from Entebbe, the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is a 100 acres forested island that is a safe haven for juvenile and orphaned chimpanzees.
Ngamba island is home to a variety of plants and tree species, wild water and forest bird species, beautiful but unique reptile species such as snakes and lizard varieties plus a beautiful lake scenery all available to make your safari a great memory.
The tour starts with a boat cruise out on Lake Victoria to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. You can choose to do a half day or full day tour. Boats leave at either 9:00am or 12:45pm.
You will be given an introduction to the project, its history, our residents and their plight upon arrival at the sanctuary. On each of the two types of day visits (half day and full day), you will receive an educational orientation by a chimpanzee caregiver and view a feeding of the chimpanzees (full day visitors will view 2 feedings) from the visitors’ raised platform area along the edge of the sanctuary fence.
The Tour will also include island shopping, bird watching, swimming on the equator, visiting a neighboring fishing village, Bird watching, experiencing other wildlife encounters, or simply sunbathing and relaxing. You will also be treated to sights of monitor lizards, birds, and photographic opportunities.
You can also decide ‘get their hands dirty’ by being part of the feeding team. This is an opportunity for you to feed the chimpanzees from the platform. On top of being able to feed your favorite chimp, you will also watch as the chimps excitedly receive from you. Its important to book your trip in advance.
